Sandwich of the day: inclusive business relations between farmers’ cooperatives and Subway in Nicaragua

In 2016, four vegetable farmers’ cooperatives in Jinotega, Nicaragua, started providing safe, high-quality vegetables to 24 national Subway outlets. Facilitated by Rikolto, they devised a business model that puts inclusivity at the forefront. We have examined all the learned lessons of the last 3 years in a comprehensive case study.

Inclusive Business Scan: members’ perception on coffee cooperative Kawa Kanzururu

In November 2017, Rikolto in DR Congo used the Inclusive Business Scan to collect stories from members of the Kawa Kanzururu Arabica coffee cooperative in North Kivu. The aim was to understand what the members think about having access to the coffee micro-washing station and about the relationship between members, micro-washing station and the cooperative.
Boosting sustainable cocoa production on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi together with Mars

Smallholder farmers in Honduras link up to Walmart

Horticulture is a promising agricultural sector in Honduras, concentrated in 4 areas, of which Intibucá is an important one. VECO supports the Lenca farmers in Intibucá, poor and historically marginalized, to improve their standard of living and their food security. VECO wants a better deal for these indigenous smallholder farmers, through a sustainable fresh vegetables chain.
Case study: tea marketing in Phu Tho, Vietnam

VECO is active in Yen Lap district, Phu Tho province, where tea is a major crop, often accounting for over 40% of family income. Chain development is seen as an approach which can improve the quality of the tea by developing strong market linkages and collective actions, resulting in a better income for farmers.

Canned asparagus from Peru finds its way to Belgian supermarket chain Colruyt

Colruyt and VECO have engaged in a long-term collaboration to create sustainable agricultural chains, with a focus on the ‘inclusion of smallholder farmers’. A first product they worked with was rice from Benin. Now, asparagus from Peru was chosen for a new pilot that focuses on inclusive modern markets.
